Privacy Policy

PDFNA does not upload your documents. This page explains exactly what that means, and precisely what data the site does collect so we can tell which tools people use.

Short answer: your files and their contents never reach our servers, because the tools run in your browser. The only data reaching the server is a single anonymous pageview ping per page, used for traffic counts.

Last updated: September 2026. Applies to pdfna.com and all pages on it.

Your files are not uploaded

Every tool on PDFNA is JavaScript that runs in your own browser. When you select a file, your browser reads it into memory and processes it locally. The finished file is written straight to your downloads.

This means PDFNa has no copy of your document, cannot read it, cannot index it, and cannot restore it if something goes wrong. It also means a document you process here is never stored anywhere by us.

Nothing is retained after you close the tab. There is no document storage, no user account, and no backup of anything you have processed.

The traffic counter

So we can see which tools are used and whether pages are loading, PDFNA counts page views with a small script that runs on our own server. There is no third-party analytics service. Google Analytics is not used.

When a page loads, the following is sent to our server:

The request is made after the page has finished loading, so it never slows down a tool.

What is never collected

Your traffic data is not sold, shared, rented or used for advertising. It is used for one purpose: knowing which tools to keep working.

Cookies and local storage

PDFNA sets one cookie and stores one preference in your browser.

Cookie: pdfna_vid

A random identifier used to count unique visitors rather than raw page views. It expires after 24 hours, so it is a new identifier each day and cannot be used to follow you across a longer period. It is marked HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and Secure on HTTPS connections, which means website scripts cannot read it.

The value stored in the analytics database is not the cookie itself. It is a salted one-way hash, so the stored record cannot be reversed to identify a person or connected to the browser that sent it.

Local storage: dark mode preference

Whether you chose light or dark mode is kept in your browser’s local storage so the site does not flash the wrong theme on your next visit. It never leaves your device and is not sent to the server.

How long data is kept

The analytics data is stored in a single database file on our server that the web server is configured not to serve. It can be read only by the site operator.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS with HSTS, so traffic is encrypted and browsers are told not to allow insecure connections. Directory listings are disabled, and the analytics and authentication files are blocked from direct web access. The dashboard password is checked on the server, never in the browser.

One honest caveat: the tools themselves are JavaScript files served to your browser, so their code is readable by anyone who downloads a page. No client-side tool can hide its own source. What this does not expose is your documents, which are never sent in the first place.

Children

PDFNA is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. Because no accounts exist and no personal data is collected, no information is gathered about anyone’s age or identity.

Your choices

You can block the traffic counter entirely by using your browser’s content blocker, or by refusing cookies for this site. The tools themselves will keep working: they do not depend on the counter or on any cookie. The only feature that needs a cookie is remembering your dark mode preference, and that is stored locally rather than sent anywhere.
